Pause for thought
Love is an attribute of God, who is Love 1 John 4:8, AGAPE Gods kind of love is a choice it involves unselfish service to others. It is no mistake that this part of Paul’s letter to a selfish church should come between chapters 12 and 14 of 1 Corinthians. The scriptures teach us that all things are to be tested this includes how spiritual gifts are being ministered, 1 Corinthians 13 is a wonderful yardstick 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Mathew 7:15-20.
“That which is perfect” 13: 10 refers to when Christ himself returns and to the eternal state, some believe it refers to the completion of the canon of scripture, but this incorrect assumption forgets that the scriptures instruct us to receive the Holy Spirit and His gifts 12:4-6.
Faith Hope and Love and all the fruit of the Spirit are absolutely necessary in the church today, but just like the gifts of the Spirit even these will on that day when Christ returns be in the past, faith will give way to sight, Hope will at last be our experience, that is except for Love which is eternal for God Himself is Love 13:13.
