The Destruction of the Harlot Babylon. Revelation chapter eighteen.

Pause for thought

The ungodly will express great sorrow at the destruction of Babylon, a byword for false religion and the end time corrupt world system. Please see my last post published 16/02/26.

Please remember there is a special blessing promised to those who read Revelation and keep its words 1:3, for anyone who reads about the fall of Babylon, there remains a warning to “come out of her my people, lest you share her sins and receive her plagues” 18:4, I’m sure that many have turned from their sin and turned to the Lord while reading this chapter!

The Rich merchants mourn their own loss while standing a far off watching the terror unfolding, Many businesses and governments in our day are often based on greed for wealth and power, an evil system where humans are tempted to find satisfaction apart from God, 18:14, Jeremiah 2:13. Jesus warned of the danger of gaining the whole world while in danger of losing their own souls, Mark 8:36.

The ship owners and merchants throw dust on their heads to show their sorrow, this is not repentance but sorrow over their financial loses 18:19.

While men cry over the destruction of Babylon, the Lord tells believers to rejoice 18:20.

The city of Babylon is symbolic of the Babylonian spirit has opposed the true work of God from the very beginning until now 18:24.

A verse to remember

Go forth from Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! With a voice of singing. Declare, proclaim this. Utter it to the end of the earth; Say, “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob!” Isaiah 48:20.
