The Destruction of the Harlot Babylon. Revelation chapter eighteen.

Pause for thought

The ungodly will express great sorrow at the destruction of Babylon, a byword for false religion and the end time corrupt world system. Please see my last post published 16/02/26.

Please remember there is a special blessing promised to those who read Revelation and keep its words 1:3, for anyone who reads about the fall of Babylon, there remains a warning to “come out of her my people, lest you share her sins and receive her plagues” 18:4, I’m sure that many have turned from their sin and turned to the Lord while reading this chapter!

The Rich merchants mourn their own loss while standing a far off watching the terror unfolding, Many businesses and governments in our day are often based on greed for wealth and power, an evil system where humans are tempted to find satisfaction apart from God, 18:14, Jeremiah 2:13. Jesus warned of the danger of gaining the whole world while in danger of losing their own souls, Mark 8:36.

The ship owners and merchants throw dust on their heads to show their sorrow, this is not repentance but sorrow over their financial loses 18:19.

While men cry over the destruction of Babylon, the Lord tells believers to rejoice 18:20.

The city of Babylon is symbolic of the Babylonian spirit has opposed the true work of God from the very beginning until now 18:24.

A verse to remember

Go forth from Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! With a voice of singing. Declare, proclaim this. Utter it to the end of the earth; Say, “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob!” Isaiah 48:20.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter seventeen. The End of an evil system.

Pause for thought

The great harlot initially Babylon, also symbolic of Rome but probably representing every false religion in the world, also illegitimate wealth, extravagance, pleasures and every wicked thing that enslaves men Peter equated Rome with Babylon 1 Peter 5:13, In these last days Babylon represents wickedness throughout the world, note she reigns over all people’s 17:15. In contrast with the heavenly city of Jerusalem 21:10. Babylon symbolises a wicked system hostile to God 17:4-5.

The seven mountains, Rome sits on seven mountains, but so do at least seventy seven others. The seven kings could be Roman emperors, or seven world Empires, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Media Persia, Greece, Rome, and a final Empire whose roots go back to the Roman Empire of Johns day. 17: 9-11

The Ten horns or ten kings who receive power with the Antichrist could be world leaders who agree to become a confederation with him , or could they be powerful people like billionaires ( who have no kingdom yet) ? 17:12

For a long time it’s been popular to blame religion for wars and every problem, finally the beast and his allies will turn on the harlot and destroy her false religion in all its forms having ridden on the backs of many empires down the centuries, it’s important to remember that her destruction is the fulfilment of Gods plan 17:17.

A verse to remember

“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” Isaiah 46:8-9 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, Chapter Sixteen. The Seven Bowls of the Wrath of God.

Pause for thought

The seventh angel sounds his trumpet Rev 11:15-19. ( is this the final trumpet of 1 Corinthians 15: 52. ) prior to the pouring out of the bowls of Gods wrath. Revelation 16. This is the judgement of God upon the kingdom of the beast ( antichrist) it’s possible that these plagues are only on the beasts kingdom?

1 boils on the skin, of all who have the mark of the beast.

2 the sea becomes like the blood of a corpse, all life in the sea dies 16:3.

3 The rivers are turned to blood, Gods righteous Judgement proclaimed 16:4-5.

4 The Sun scorches men who curse God, rather than repent 16: 8-9.

5 Darkness and Pain, yet still they do not repent 16:10-11.

6 The great Euphrates river dries up so the Armies from the east can invade the beasts kingdom, at this point lying spirits of demons performing false signs ( we must test all things because not every miraculous sign is from our God) led by three unclean spirits from the mouths of the devil, the false prophet, and the antichrist ( false words ) go out to all the world to draw them to battle ( Armageddon) 16:12-14.

7 Giant hailstones and a final great earthquake leading to international collapse, earthquakes are increasing but these present day earthquakes are but the birth pangs of what is to come 16:17.

A verse to remember

“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” Revelation 16:15 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, chapter fifteen. Seven Angels having the seven last plagues.

Pause for thought

As we read and ponder the book of Revelation I’m sure we are aware of the number of different interpretations and theories out there! We must always keep in mind the warning given to its readers not to add or subtract from the prophecy. We read from the book, but never read something into the book of revelation that’s just not there! I believe as time gets closer to Jesus coming, more will become clearer Revelation 22:18-19

The sea of glass is probably the same sea of glass we read about in Revelation 4:6, here it is mixed with fire probably representing Gods wrath and judgement. Also suggested by the imagery is the red sea crossing ( sea and the pillar of fire ) possible as the song of Moses, that Israel sang of their victory over Pharaoh, the same song now being sung by these saints who have overcome the beast, his image, mark, and number 15:2-4.

The temple of the tabernacle of the testament this testament is the everlasting covenant between God and His people through the blood of Christ 15:5

There will be no escape from this judgement it will come to pass 15:3 Just and true are your ways, King of the saints 15:6.

No access is permitted to the temple until the bowls of Gods wrath is completed. No more intercession or petitions until the millennium?

A verse to meditate upon Who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You. For your judgements have been manifested. Revelation 15:4 N.K.J.V.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, chapter fourteen. Jesus the Lamb standing on mount Zion.

Pause for thought

What a contrast to the preceding two chapters! We now see what awaits us. The Lamb who is our Lord Jesus Christ is standing on the heavenly mount Zion. Some think that with Him are the same one hundred and forty four thousand mentioned in 7:1-8. Others myself included, think that although there are similarities these one hundred and forty four thousand represent all faithful saints. 14:1-5.

The three Angels

Another Angel

I believe that there will come a time when the Gospel will of been declared, and like the door of Noah’s Ark shut tight. This Angel who is carrying the everlasting Gospel is reminding all people world wide of the Gospel and the judgement that will surely come upon those who reject Jesus 16:6-7.

The second Angel

Shouting “Babylon is fallen” Babylon illustrates how lusting after wealth is the root of every kind of evil. 1 Timothy 6:10 Mammon is finally defeated!

The third Angel warns of judgement to come upon all worshippers of the anti christ or his statue by accepting his mark on hand or forehead will be tormented by fire. But there is an encouraging message those who have become Christians during the great tribulation to be patient stand firm, and keep trusting in Jesus 14:12.

The harvest of the earth

The Son of Man (Jesus Christ) seated on a white cloud, with a golden crown on His head and sharp sickle in His hand. Jesus is ready to return, but notice an Angel comes from the heavenly Temple declaring that the time has come. Jesus still does not know the time or the hour of His return! An Angel comes from God the Father with the Fathers instructions Mathew 24:36.

A verse to remember

Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures James 1:18 N.K.J.V.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter thirteen. The Beasts from the Sea and the Earth.

Pause for thought

Chapters twelve through fifteen of Revelation could be sub headed Setting the scene an introduction to some end time players. I find it near impossible to put the events of chapters twelve to fifteen in consecutive order, however they will certainly happen just as prophesied.

The Beast from the sea, has seven heads representing authority, with blasphemous names written, representing Empires that have persecuted Israel in the past, ref Danial 7:2-7. The ten horns with ten crowns representing power, is probably the seventh Empire of 13:1. It is the Devil (dragon) who gives him power, a throne and authority. This monster was not born possessed but at some point in his political career he bows down to the evil one who then possess him and rules the world through him . “Out of the sea” the Antichrist will come at a time of geo political instability. The sea represents people so I think the Antichrist will be democratically elected, which is man’s choice but not Gods 13:4.1 Samuel 8.

The Beast from the earth, or false prophet will appear like a lamb, but his true nature is like a wolf, this is the essence of every false prophet he will come from the Earth (no part of his message will come from above) he will be the great deceiver. His mission will be to destroy people by causing them to obey and worship the devil, by directing them to the Antichrist. 13:13-14, 2 Corinthians 11:15,

The Book of Life is a register of the redeemed, note it’s the Lambs (Jesus) book, also note, Christs death was planned by God from before there was a world! 13:8 “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son” John 3:16

A verse to remember

For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Matthew 24:24 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter Twelve. The Woman, the child, and the Dragon,

Pause for thought

As with much of the book of Revelation there are a number of views as to the identity of the Woman and child of Revelation 12. 1 Catholics tend to think that the woman represents Mary, the stars on her garland represent the twelve Apostles. 2 Others see the woman as Israel the garland the twelve sons of Jacob ( twelve tribes of Israel) the child as representing Christ. 3 Some see the woman changing identity in 12:6 now representing the church, the child now becomes believers. I favour 2, the clincher for me is the Male child (Jesus) who is to rule all nations with a rod of iron, and is caught up to God and His throne 12:5. The fiery red dragon needs no introduction, He empowers the anti christ who brings terror upon the world particularly persecuting Israel during the great tribulation (1260 days.) the rest of her offspring are all those who become Christian’s during the great tribulation period 12:17.

War in Heaven Although this is a cosmic war between the archangel Michael and The devil and his angels. The devil and his angels are defeated and thrown out of Heaven. But not simply by Michael and his angels but in partnership with the saints who are standing firm on the testify and blood of Christ, see verse 12:11 12:7 .

They overcame the devil by the blood of the Lamb, the victory of the finished work of Jesus who shed His blood for our sins, the blood also brings peace of mind when the devil accuses us. The word of their testimony is the promise and authority of the Word of God on which we stand at the time of attack 12:11.

Satan having been thrown out of heaven where he has accused believers since the fall of Adam, is raging because he can no longer accuse them before God. His wicked plans are coming to nothing, for him time is running out. Very bad news for those on earth, but good news for those in heaven because their accuser is silenced

A verse to remember

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:11 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter eleven. The Tribulation Temple, and the Two Witnesses.

Pause for 💭

The Temple could refer to the Holy Spirit indwelling members of the body of Christ 1 Cor 3:16. Or to a future Temple built during the early tribulation period that later becomes a target for the antichrist 2 Thessalonians 2:4. The measuring rod speaks of either preservation in the case of the first, or destruction in the case of the second?

Warning Some Christian’s get very excited about the possibility of another Temple being built with Temple worship being established once more, probably including animal sacrifice and all that that would signify! Please 0read what the Bible says in Hebrews 8, The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish Christian’s reminding them to remain in Christ and not give in to temptation and return to Judaism. A future temple in Jerusalem will be a big pull, May the Lord help all Christians to remain faithful. The Building of a temple during the tribulation would deny the finished work of Jesus and be offensive to God.

The Two Witnesses Prophecy in Jerusalem for Three and a half lunar years (1260 days) dressed in sackcloth and preaching repentance to anyone who will listen. Those who seeks to harm them will die from what comes out of their mouths. ( not a natural death!)
There is much speculation about their identity but we are only told that they are God’s witnesses. They bring plagues upon the earth which results in rejoicing when they are finally killed, After three and a half days they are raised to life and taken to heaven. Followed by a great earthquake that destroys seven thousand in Jerusalem

The Two witnesses are empowered by the Holy Spirit, notice they were not killed until their ministry was completed. I truly believe that like them we are not taken off this world until we have finish our God given task. Their preaching was a torment to those who were perishing, hardened hearts perish, but we understand that there were those who come to Christ during the tribulation period.

The Seventh Trumpet, heralds in the ever lasting kingdom of our Lord and His Christ 11: 15. Heaven is opened and the ark of His covenant is seen in Gods heavenly Temple, (This is the mercy Seat Hebrews 9:23-26). A reminder of Gods faithfulness to His people 11:19. ( this is not a reappearance of the Old Testament ark of the covenant which was a copy of the Heavenly) this is the throne of God.

A verse to remember Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter ten. The Mighty Angel with the little book.

Pause for thought

The mighty angel is similar in appearance to the Son of Man 1:13-16. This mighty angel is Gods special messenger to the whole world. The seven thunders are the voice of God, John has been writing all that he has seen and heard. But now he is told not write what God has said but to seal up everything the thunders have uttered. This is very similar to the command given to Daniel 8:26.

Gods mysterious plan fulfilled. When the Angel blows and the seventh trumpet sounds, Gods plan for humanity will be fulfilled, and the end of the age will have arrived 11:15, Ephesians 1:9-10.

Sweet = good news, Bitter = judgement to come. The little book is open in the angels hand, this represents the glorious gospel that is available to all who through faith receive it. But becomes bitter in the stomach of the evangelist ( many evangelists tell of sowing and reaping with tears as well as with great rejoicing) because it promises judgement upon all who reject the gospel message 10:10. See also Ezekiel 3:1.

A verse to remember

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:9 N.K.J.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ chapter nine. Demons released, and invaders from the east.

Pause for thought

The fifth angel blows a trumpet.

The star (angel) fallen from heaven is probably Satan himself is given the key to the bottomless pit, possibly but not necessarily the prison for sinning spirits that we read about in Jude 6. These beings are described as being like locusts. 1 Their time span is limited to five months ( life span of a locust). 2 They have only permission to harm unbelievers. 3 power to torment but not to kill. In those days men will seek death but will be unable to die. Many suggestions about who or what the locusts represent including helicopter gun ships or drones, I think the locusts represent numerous demons who materialise 9:7-10 and be released upon this world, far more wicked than the unseen spiritual forces we Christians resist daily.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood , but against the rulers , against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms Ephesians 6:12

The six angel blows a trumpet

A voice probably of command from God in response to prayer 9:1.

1 Notice four Evil Angels are bound ( this means God is in control of these events 9:15) 2 The number of the army is specific, John repeats he heard the number 9:16. 3 Because they cross the Euphrates we know this could be a literal invasion from the east, the colours could represent several national armies 9:13-19.

Yet they still did not repent of these specific sins of our age 1 murder, 2 sorcery (can also mean drug addiction) 3 sexual immorality 4 theft.

A verse to remember

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.
